Jamdani

Jamdani is one of Bengal’s oldest and most technically demanding weaves — motifs are woven directly into the fabric by hand, thread by thread, rather than printed or embroidered on afterward, which is why genuine Jamdani sarees take skilled weavers days to complete even a single piece. Traditionally woven in fine cotton, the technique produces a saree that looks almost translucent in places, with motifs like buti (small florals), butas and geometric patterns appearing to float on the base fabric.
